Grip Size Matters

Often overlooked as a fitting concern, matching the right size grips to your hands is one of the most important aspects of your equipment and can have a significant impact on your performance. Grips that are either too small or too large for a player’s hands can cause hooks or slices, and — more often than not — clubheads and swing mechanics receive the blame.

Arnold Palmer has trusted Lamkin grips throughout a career that included more than 1,000 pro tour events, 92 victories, four Masters and two British Open titles, and he knows the importance of playing the correct grip size.

“The correct grip size allows you to set the club properly at the top of the backswing,” says Palmer. “If the grip is too small, it may result in too much hand action and cause the club face to close prematurely. Likewise is true for a grip that is too big. It may cause the clubhead to open up at impact.”

Palmer recommends finding your correct grip size with Lamkin’s virtual Grip Wizard, or having your teaching professional or club-fitting expert check it for you.

“Rest assured,” he adds, “Lamkin offers a variety of grips in all grip sizes.”
